Vipassana awareness is a special type of awareness: it can only exist in the present moment, it rises when something is experienced and ends with the end of that experience. It enables us to access the transitory nature of whatever happens. The more we explore, the more we realize that whatever catches our attention and enters our mind is everchanging and deceptive. In our meditation these experiences take place within our mind: by isolating the mind and leaving out sensory input at the sense doors, it can break free from its usual way of experiencing reality, and we can see things as they really are. We enter a new territory, where we are challenged to go in the direction of full libreration from suffering, by letting go of what we recognize as illusory and devoid of a self.
