Description
REGISTRATION OPENS ON JANUARY 17 AT 8:00 AM
Loving-Kindness (Mettā) and Satipaṭṭhāna Vipassanā Retreat
The retreat consists of an initial period of Loving-Kindness (Mettā) practice, followed by a period of Insight (Vipassanā) meditation.
The retreat is open to everyone. The welcoming and kind attitude cultivated through Mettā allows for a deeper penetration into the nature of phenomena—as they truly are—during mindfulness meditation. Together, these practices help liberate the heart from attachment and suffering. In this retreat, Ven. Virañani will share traditional Burmese Mettā teachings, providing a foundation for developing a Vipassanā practice that is both accessible and easily integrated into daily life.
Arrival is scheduled between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM on the first day; the retreat concludes after lunch on the final day.
Ven. Virañani began her meditation practice in 1979. Following several years of teaching at the Insight Meditation Society in Massachusetts (USA) and training within the Thai Forest tradition, she embarked on a four-year period of intensive practice in the Burmese lineage of Mahāsi Sayadaw. She was fully ordained in Burma under Sayadaw U Panditabhivamsa in 2006 and currently resides at the Chanmyay Myaing Meditation Centre, north of Yangon. She teaches Mettā and Vipassanā meditation in Burma, Europe, and Australia. In 2008, she co-founded Mettā In Action, a charitable organization that provides disadvantaged people in Burma with the means and skills to help themselves. She is passionate about the Dhamma and Nature, and about how both can help us discover the inherent goodness within every being.
